State brackets

Recommended Posts

I looked through all the districts on Track and it looks like they all were completed yesterday despite the Friday night postponement at Marshall.  Hopefully the boys brackets will come before the MSHSAA stated Monday 8:00 am release.

How about possibly for the first time ever there are actual byes at the state tournament due to some district tournaments only having 3 kids in a bracket...class 2 district 1.

Maybe the first time for multiple byes, but I know Class 1 District 1 only had 3 kids at 106 a few years ago

Misc information for discussion heading into State.  Not sure if anyone has talked about the field being "watered down".  But overall, there will be 45.4% of the wrestlers entering state with double digit losses on their records.  Class 2 has over 50%.  26 of 56 weight classes have at least half of the 16 man bracket with double digit losses.  24 total losing records heading into State.

Virginia has a kid that qualified for state at 0-8 for the year. He was in a four man bracket at their qualifying tourney.

I dont know if that means the field is watered down. I think the bad records could have a lot more to do with tougher scheduling/competition. the winnetonka tournament is significantly tougher than it was just 5 years ago - schools like Lafayette, Staley, Liberty and Kearney are just a few teams that werent a big factor or weren't in the tournament at all in 2013.

good example: David Brooks 145 from staley is obviously a stud (district champion) and I'm pretty sure he didnt even place top 10 at winnetonka.

That's what I was thinking. If "watered down" really means tough competition. I didn't get any numbers for overall win/loss records or if the double digit losses are more than their double digits wins. Just a misc piece of info.
