Border Brawl Opens NCAA Week

At St. Pius X High School in Kansas City, Missouri, the NCAA week commenced with the Missouri Border Brawl, an event that brought together highly ranked high school wrestlers from across the country. This gathering wasn’t just another competition; it was a significant occasion that spotlighted emerging talents in both boys and girls wrestling.

In the featured match of the event, Jax Forrest from Bishop McCort, Pennsylvania, faced off against Kyler Larkin of Valiant Prep, Arizona, in a boys folkstyle wrestling match. Forrest, entering as the second-ranked wrestler, leading to a 10-6 win over Larkin, who was ranked third. Forrest employed a series of successful takedowns and escapes to secure his victory. His performance earned him the Outstanding Wrestler award, highlighting his status as a U17 World medalist and reinforcing his reputation as one of the nation’s top wrestlers.

In the girls division, the 145-pound freestyle match featured Brenya Crahan of Missouri against Kaylee Davis of Oklahoma. Crahan dominated the match, achieving a 10-0 tech fall. Her victory over the Top 10 ranked and 2x Oklahoma state champ earned her the Outstanding Wrestler title for the girls..

The event also showcased a series of matches featuring nationally ranked girls, further emphasizing the depth and talent present in high school wrestling locally. Wrestlers like Louise Juitt of Belton and Aroma Marrufo of Fort Osage emerged victorious in their respective matches, defeating nationally ranked opponents and showcasing their abilities on a national stage.

The youth bouts added another layer of excitement, with young wrestlers from the region competing and showing potential that bodes well for the future of the sport. Wrestlers such as Cole Martin and Billy Roberts captured victories, hinting at their future potential.
