A young group of wrestlers were ready to get to work on the first day of winter sports practice at Center High School. Since that day this inexperienced group have performed well and 2 recent Tournaments proved that more is to come.
The Center Girls wrestling team finished in 2nd place at the 46th Coffman Invite held at Truman High school on Dec.8 & 9. The Yellowjackets competed hard and earned 124. 5 points. The very next weekend Center was entered in the Raytown South holiday tournament. When the two day event ended Center had accumulated 120 points good for 3rd place.
Head Coach Charles Misher admits he is “Impressed” by the tourney results. Some of the impressive results out of the Ray South tourney included Sophomore Taiyahna Pruitt wrestling at 110 who was undefeated going in, Then lost in the finals round. The 2nd year wrestler is now 14-1. Misher says of Pruitt “Better understands body position”. At 125 Stahrr Williams finished in 2nd place. Williams is a Senior but is in her first year as a Wrestler. Williams enters the christmas break at 10-4 after back to back second place finishes. Jayanna Mattingly, a co-Captain, “has been wrestling really tough”.Mattingly, now 12-2, finished in 3rd place at 140 in the Raytown South meet.
