Tigers struggle against Oklahoma State, fall short 17-16

#12 Oklahoma State over #9 Missouri (17-16)

After dominating the Sooners on Friday, the Tigers struggled to score against OK State. Outside of Keegan O’Toole, no Mizzou wrestler scored more than four points and they only scored six takedowns. They suffered three significant upsets, including #1 Rocky Elam taking a loss. In the end the dual came down to criteria, where Daton Fix scored the deciding major decision and the Cowboys won on match points 45-43.

While the team score was great Friday, some of the individual performances were worrying and it carried over to Sunday. Many of the wrestlers looked like they were more focused on scoring off their opponents offense and weren’t able to consistently produce their own. The highlight was Peyton Mocco getting revenge on Plott, but the excitement was short-lived.

141lbs: #22 Carter Young Dec. #7 Allan Hart (4-2)

Young was always going to be a dangerous opponent, but Hart’s skills seemed to match up well. However, Young outscrambled him and worked him from the top position. Hart is not one that typically struggles on bottom but has in back to back matches. He scored a reversal late to tie it, but with Young having riding time tried to cut and get a late takedown as time expired.

Hart struggled to get to his offense all weekend, but was also lacking the aggression he had earlier in the year. If he can get that back then I think this is a rematch he’ll be looking for in the future.
