The annual GroWrestling Fall Brawl delivered a showcase of grit, skill, and early-season dominance as Missouri’s best squared off against top talent from across the Midwest. With multiple nationally ranked wrestlers in action and a few potential state finals previews, the tournament set the tone for what promises to be an electric 2025-26 season.


106 lbs: Hall Makes a Statement

St. Pius X freshman Alex Hall turned heads with a gritty run to the 106-pound title. In a potential Class 4 state finals preview, Hall blanked Columbia Hickman’s Dominic Marchack 4-0 in the quarterfinals before knocking off Minnesota standout Jackson Thorn of nationally ranked St. Michael-Albertville (#22) in the finals. Hall’s performance solidified him as both a state title contender and a name to watch on the national stage.

113 lbs: Perkins Breaks Through

Kearney’s freshman phenom Maysen Perkins reached the finals before falling 4-0 to #18-ranked Landon Thoennes. Perkins’ run included a signature win over Nebraska state champion Carter Booze in the semifinals. Liberty’s Rowdy Angst bounced back from a semifinal loss to Perkins by ripping off five straight wins to place fourth in one of the tournament’s deepest brackets.

120 lbs: Cox Leads the Way

Liberty’s John Cox battled through a tough field to claim sixth place, the highest Missouri finish at 120 lbs. Meanwhile, 8th grader Rocky Thompson turned heads by knocking off several high school opponents enroute to a blood-round appearance.


126 lbs: Schreier Pushes the Pace

Fort Osage’s Kaison Schreier fell just short in a 5-2 thriller against Nebraska state champ Zaiyahn Ornelas. In the semifinals, Schreier edged St. Michael’s Parker Lutz 8-7 in one of the wildest matches of the tournament. A roster battle at St. Pius X highlighted the depth at this weight, with freshman George Bringus defeating junior Dylan Hall 4-0 in the blood round.


132 lbs: Dunn Dominates

Liberty’s Cade Dunn put on a show, dominating Tucker Verbeck (Maize, KS) 14-0 in the finals to claim the championship. Dunn’s road included a hard-fought win over 2025 Kansas state champion Antonio Guebara and a pin over teammate Gavin Shelton in a potential roster showdown. Another 8th grader, Adam Rea, impressed with a blood-round run that included several wins over older opponents.

138 lbs: McMurtry Pushes a Champ

Columbia Hickman’s Brady McMurtry battled two-time Kansas state champ Cael Puderbaugh to a tight 4-1 semifinal loss before injury-defaulting out to finish sixth — the lone Missouri placer at this weight.


144 lbs: Instant Classic in the Finals

The championship match between Liberty’s Roman Stewart and Paola (KS) star Brock Johnson — a three-time state champion — was the highlight of the tournament. Stewart tied the match with a late takedown, but Johnson escaped in the closing seconds to claim the 4-3 win. Ft. Zumwalt North’s Patrick Provost placed fourth in the stacked bracket.

150 lbs: Missouri Strong in Deep Field

Hickman’s Taryn Nichols claimed fourth in a loaded 150-pound bracket, while Liberty’s Ross Davis fell to Nebraska state champ Mason Peterson 8-0 in the semifinals before injury-defaulting to sixth.


157 lbs: Brown Delivers the Match of the Day

The marquee matchup lived up to the billing as Odessa’s Jet Brown, ranked #8 nationally, edged Thunder Paige (Rose Hill, KS) 4-3 in a thrilling final. Ft. Zumwalt South’s Colin Weiss battled to a sixth-place finish in a stacked field.

165 lbs: Abell Breaks Through

Hickman’s Tyler Abell reached the finals before falling 12-4 to Illinois standout Knox VerbaisSt. Michael’s Cole Sackett edged Liberty’s Cooper Kirkham 8-7 for third place.


175 lbs: Fagan Hits the Podium

Nixa’s Phillip Fagan represented Missouri with a fourth-place finish at 175 lbs.


190 lbs: Harms Takes Third

Maysville’s Carter Harms earned a strong third-place finish, while Camdenton freshman Brock Conaway impressed with a fifth-place showing after a narrow semifinal loss to Kansas state champ Tad Forsyth.


215 lbs: Depth on Display

Waynesville’s Joseph Camelin led a strong Missouri contingent that swept 3rd through 6th place in one of the toughest brackets of the tournament.


285 lbs: Holcomb Holds His Ground

Francis Howell’s Aiden Holcomb battled his way to a fifth-place finish in the heavyweight division, closing out a strong showing for Missouri across all weight classes.


Final Thoughts

From breakout freshmen to seasoned veterans, Missouri wrestlers showed they’re ready to make noise on both the state and national stages this season. With intense battles, statement wins, and even a few potential state finals previews, the 2025 Fall Brawl once again proved why it’s one of the Midwest’s premiers early-season events.
