Depth is what separates good teams from championship programs. For years, we’ve tracked the Varsity stars, but today we are expanding our coverage to highlight the “next man up”—the Freshmen making noise and the JV grinders who would be starters on almost any other team.
How We Determine These Rankings Ranking JV wrestlers presents a unique challenge: the data is messier, and lines between Varsity and JV often blur. To create a fair and representative list, we built a custom algorithm with a specific filter:
- The “JV Purity” Standard: We rank wrestlers based exclusively on their performance against sub-varsity competition.
- Eligibility Threshold: To appear on this list, a wrestler must have competed in at least 50% of their total matches at the JV/Freshman level this season.
Why this rule? We wanted to avoid cluttering the rankings with Varsity starters who simply wrestled one JV tournament to get matches. This list is dedicated to the true JV athletes and future Varsity starters.
Note: Records displayed reflect JV/Freshman matches only.

We ranked up to the top 20 for each weight class, where available. Some classes had over 50, while a few have under 20.
We’ll expand the depth each week.
