Three @MizzouWrestling Grapplers Take Home Titles at UCM Open

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Last weekend, 16 #TigerStyle grapplers competed in the Central Missouri (UCM) Open and nine placed in the top-three slots of their respective brackets. Three Mizzou wrestlers placed first, including freshman 141-pounder Will Roark (Seneca, Mo.), freshman 157-pounder Keegan McCormick (Lee’s Summit, Mo.), and 165-pound freshman Nicholas DeLoach (Alton, Ill.).

Roark won all four of his matches en-route to his first place finish, recording technical falls in the first and second-round, followed by a pin (5:20) in the semifinal, before defeating Darren Wynn of McKendree by the score of 6-2 in the final match. McCormick won five matches over in the weekend, beating Lindenwood’s Colton Orlando with a major decision (11-0) in the final match. McCormick had three pins and a major decision in the matches leading up to the final. DeLoach won two matches by decision, followed by a major decision victory in the semifinals, before earning the championship after a medical forfeit.

Earning second-place finishes for #TigerStyle were freshman 125-pounder Chandler Fohey (Hannibal, Mo.) and freshman 184-pounder Jaydin Bears (Staley, Mo.), while freshman 141-pounder Kevin Kissane (Wichita, Kan.), freshman 157-pounder Luke Fortuna (Lombard, Ill.), freshman 184-pounder Dalton Voyles (Pacific, Mo.), and freshman heavyweight James Romero (Albuquerque, N.M.) all earned third place finishes. Romero had four falls, including two in the first 38 seconds of the match, and a technical fall on his way to a third-place finish. All four of Voyles victories came by way of major-decision. Bears recorded two falls while Fohey, Kissane, and Fortuna all had one fall on the day.

This weekend, 31 #TigerStyle wrestlers will compete in three different tournaments across three different states. 19 will wrestle at the Maryville Kaufman Brand Open in Maryville, Mo., three at the Harold Nichols Open in Ames. Iowa, and 10 at the Michigan State Open in East Lansing, Mich.
