Final Score: Mizzou 25 over Northern Iowa 16
Mizzou won this dual overall but took some tough losses along the way. This was the first dual of the day for both teams, and UNI came out swinging to put up 13 points against Mizzou early. UNI was without Parker Keckeisen, Austin Yant, and Carter Isley in this dual as well. With three upset losses for Mizzou, it took the team’s upperweights coming back with bonus to clinch it for the Tigers.
125lbs: #18 Noah Surtin loss #11 Brody Teske (Fall: 5:58)
This was the match I was looking forward to the most, and it did not disappoint. This match was filled with scrambles and takedowns throughout. Surtin looked solid from neutral and had a big throw. However, even with some tilts loaded up, Surtin couldn’t roll Teske.
This aggressive offense left an impact on Teske nonetheless though because he seemingly had no interest in going under Surtin. Teske took neutral with his choice in the third. Going into the third period it was tied 4-4, but Surtin took a shot a bit too far from space. Teske threw Surtin by him and locked up a cradle, ending the match. This felt similar to Surtin’s matches at NCAA’s last season.
He can wrestle with top guys throughout, but the third period has provided some issues. I think Teske is better than his #11 ranking, but I was still looking to see Surtin hit a breakthrough here.
