St. Clair girls have high expectations for returning wrestlers

Submitted by Mel Hughes

We have high expectations for our returning wrestlers.  Seniors, Mackenzie Turner, Cassidy Shoemate, Juniors Olivia Pratt, Emma Davis, Elexis Wohlgemuth.  They are joined by three freshman all of who have a year experience wrestling in our junior high program last season, Hannah Thacker and Emma Barrett.  We feel everyone of these student athletes will be deep in the mix to compete at the state championships in February.

It is great news that MSHSAA has improved the state championship experience for girls by adding a fourth qualifier so that the state brackets will be sixteen the same as the boys side.

Our first year wrestlers Junior Mikayla Johnson, Lili Vernon, Sophomore Berylyn Wohlegemutth, Sophomore Kaitlyn Janson, freshman Gabby Marler and Gracie Immekus have caught on quickly to the effort and intensity needed to thrive in our practices.

It is an exciting time in wrestling with the addition of a girls division in our state last season  Our coaching staff believes in our girls team and believe they will compete with the best of the girls wrestlers across the state of Missouri.  We have added more tournaments for them and they will have plenty of opportunities to showcase their talents in 2019-20.
