PLATTE CITY, Mo. — Smithville found a way to turn over a lead to the strength of its lineup, and the result became inevitable Tuesday night at Platte County High School.
Starting with an overtime win for sophomore Mason Crim at 220 pounds, Smithville won five straight matches — three with max bonus points to build a commanding lead on Platte County. The Warriors added three more pins late on the way to a 42-28 victory that was never in doubt after the initial onslaught of points.
“We have a lot of great guys doing great things,” said Smithville’s Class 3-No. 1 ranked freshman Kolby McClain after his pin of Draiden Chilcoat at 106 helped push the Warriors lead to 24-3. “We feel confident in every guy we throw out there so it’s just whoever is out there, do what they can do.”
