Where to Watch: December 14th FloWrestling, 1PM CT
Mizzou has had seven ranked duals this season and this will be just the second against a team that isn’t in the top 15. This is also their first official road dual that isn’t at a neutral site. Don’t let the rankings fool you however, as UNI is an always well coached team with gritty tough wrestlers at all 10 weights. Both teams are favored in five matches, but UNI’s team has some under the radar guys. Some of their wrestlers have taken a hit in the rankings recently which could create some tougher matches than on paper. They are coming off one of their best team finishes with a 14-1 dual record and 9th place finish last season.
This season they went 1-2 at National Duals, beating Cornell with losses to NC State and Minnesota. They beat NDSU in their last dual and had a handful of wrestlers at both the Jim Koch Open and Cougar Clash. They don’t return any All-Americans but have multiple wrestlers who have made the bloodround/round of 16 in recent years. This dual kicks off the Tigers Big 12 duals and will be their last dual of the first semester with an opportunity to finish strong before the break.
125lbs: #28 Mack Mauger (11-7) vs #27 Trever Anderson (4-4)
One of the first matches with an UNI wrestler that is under the radar, Anderson finished in the bloodround last year and had multiple wins over previous All-Americans. He’s long for the weight and shows a lot of strength with good top wrestling and a unique feet to back finish he has pinned good wrestlers with. His losses this season are all to ranked wrestlers, including #1 Vincent Robinson (NCST) and All-American #9 Jore Volk (MINN). Anderson was also at the Cougar Clash and finished 2nd, with a loss to Spencer Moore in the finals. Anderson had a slow start last season as well before breaking through in the post season.
