#10 Mizzou vs #5 North Carolina State
All Time Record vs: 2-3
The last time Mizzou wrestled NC State they split matches going 5-5 each, and Mizzou lost 18-17 in 2016. Unfortunately, this could end up with a similar finish as both teams are favored in five matches each. 19 of the 20 wrestlers here are ranked. If Matt Schmitt returns then Mizzou would probably have the advantage, but either way bonus points are going to be a big factor in a dual like this. I think there’s toss up matches at 125lbs, 133lbs, 141lbs, 157lbs, and 197lbs. There’s likely to be some upsets in this dual from both teams. The winner of this dual should go on to face #1 Iowa on Tuesday.
125lbs: #15 Noah Surtin (4-1) vs #5 Jakob Camacho (6-0)
As far as rankings go, Camacho has a significant advantage here. He wrestles very cleanly and is good from all three positions but doesn’t tend to ride too much against top competition. Surtin showed how dangerous he can be after pinning Latona, who gave Camacho fits last year beating him twice. While I expect a close match, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a lot of points on the board with Surtin’s style. If he can keep Camacho down and get a turn, that would be huge for the match and show off his top ability. I’m taking Surtin to get a top five win here in an exciting match.
Prediction: Surtin Dec. Camacho 10-7 (MIZ 3 NCST 0)
