Missouri Valley College Men’s Wrestling Remains at No. 15 in Latest Coaches’ Poll

Marshall, Mo., (Dec. 19, 2019)- The Missouri Valley College men’s wrestling team remains at No. 15 in the latest 2019-20 NAIA Men’s Wrestling Coaches’ Top 20 Poll, with eight individuals ranked in their respective weight classes.

The Vikings stayed at No. 15 in the second coaches’ poll of the regular season, and have competed in seven duals and two open tournaments since the previous poll was released last month.  The team finished 4-3 in duals during the stretch, which included a meeting with NCAA Division I University of Missouri.  Also, a 45-5 dual win over Rochester (Mich.) College gave Head Coach Mike Machholz win No. 200 in his career at Missouri Valley.  He owns an all-time record of 202-106-2.

Missouri Valley is one of four teams from the Heart of America Athletic Conference ranked.  Grand View (Iowa) University is No. 1, Baker (Kan.) University moved to No. 5 and Graceland (Iowa) University is No. 15.  The Vikings meet Grand View in a road dual, Jan. 23, and host Baker in a dual, Jan. 23.

In addition to the team ranking, a total of eight individual Vikings are ranked in their respective weight classes.  Leading the individual rankings is Senior Richard Pocock (Plano, Texas), ranked No. 2 at 149 pounds.  Other Vikings ranked include:

  • No. 19 Junior Dequarius Millett (Granite City, Ill.) at 133 pounds.
  • No. 9 Senior Casper Sherow (Rialto, Calif.) at 149 pounds.
  • No. 5 Sophomore Elias Vaoifi (Independence, Mo.) at 165 pounds.
  • No. 19 Junior William Seibert (Farmington, Mo.) at 174 pounds.
  • No. 19 Junior Kenneth Kirk (Elsino, Calif.) at 184 pounds.
  • No. 15 Sophomore Dayton Brown (Warrensburg, Mo.) at 197 pounds.
  • No. 20 Freshman Joshua Isaac (Woodbridge, Va.) at 285 pounds.

Next up on the schedule for the Viking men’s wrestling team is the NAIA National Duals in Louisville, Ky., Jan. 10-11.
