“This was a tough loss tonight, but GU wrestled hard and had a great environment,” said Men’s Wrestling Head Coach Mike Machholz. “It’s difficult to go anywhere in our conference, leave three starters at home, bump up guys one or two weight classes and expect to come away with a win. We really missed Elias Vaoifi at 165 pounds, Richard Pockock at 149 pounds and Dayton Brown at 197 pounds. I was really proud of our fight and effort. Millett started us off with a hard-fought win. Sherow had a great come-from-behind win. Kenneth Kirk made his debut up three weight classes and got a big win at 197 pounds. Josh Isaac really took some steps forward battling with the No. 3 ranked wrestler at 285 pounds, and eventually losing in overtime. We need to get over the flu bug, heal up and get prepared for the Valley Duals, December 17 at home. Lots of season left.”

The loss drops Missouri Valley to 1-2 on the season in duals, and Graceland improves to 4-1.

Up next, the men’s wrestling team hosts the Viking Duals, Dec. 17, inside the Burns Athletic Center, featuring Campbellsville (Ky.) University, Rochester (Ill.) College, Williams Baptist (Ark.) College and University of St. Mary (Kan.).
