Class 1 Girls Wrestling District Preview: February 13–14

Missouri’s Future Takes the Mat February 13th and 14th will mark one of the most electric weekends of the Missouri high school wrestling season as Class 1 girls across the state converge for district tournaments. With history on the line, stacked brackets, and state podium dreams hanging in the balance, the stage is set for a showcase of grit, power, and elite-level competition. From nationally ranked stars to rising freshmen making their first postseason statement, Class 1 districts are loaded with storylines and the depth of talent across all four districts. This group of young ladies are proof that women’s wrestling in Missouri is not just growing, it’s thriving.

District 1: A Gauntlet of Talent Host: DeSoto High School | February 13–14 If there is one district that defines “no room for error,” it’s District 1. Hosted by No. 4-ranked DeSoto, this district features four Class 1 top-10 teams; No. 2 Ste. Genevieve, No. 4 DeSoto, No. 5 Festus, and No. 9 Rockwood Summit, making it arguably the toughest draw in the entire class.

Spotlight Wrestlers Few freshmen in Missouri have made a louder statement this season than Lexi Wolk (Ste. Genevieve). Ranked No. 1 at 100, Wolk has collected staple wins at the state’s most prestigious tournaments including an impressive 7th place finish at The Wonder Woman, cementing herself as a force well beyond her years. At 140 pounds, Keely Fallert (Ste. Genevieve) headlines the district, and the state. A nationally ranked junior and one of Missouri’s most technically sound wrestlers, Fallert enters districts as the clear favorite. Fallert is the returning State Champion at 140 and a state finalist her freshman year, but in a district this deep, nothing is guaranteed. No. 2 Dani Gullett (Festus), No. 3 Julian Smith (Principia) look to challenge Fallert for the number 1 spot.

The Bracket Everyone Is Watching: 105 Pounds Circle it. Highlight it. Build your schedule around it. The 105-pound bracket in District 1 may be the most competitive girls bracket Missouri has seen this season. Five of the top six ranked wrestlers in the state are in this district and only four will advance. Who will it be?

  • Addison Cupp (Festus), coming off a Wonder Woman Finals appearance
  • Emerson Reeves (Herculaneum), defending district champion and returning state finalist
  • Nico Brooks (Hillsboro), KC Stampede placer and returning state medalist
  • Kya Aubuchon (DeSoto), another returning medalist hunting her first finals run

Upsets are inevitable. Careers will be defined. The margins will be razor-thin. District 1 isn’t just deep, it’s unforgiving.

Class 1 District 1 Affton, Bishop DuBourg, Brentwood, Cardinal Ritter, Central (Park Hills), Clayton, Confluence Prep Academy, DeSoto, Dexter, Festus, Gateway Science, Gateway, Hancock, Herculaneum, Hillsboro, Kelly, Kennett, Kipp St. Louis Sr., Lift of Life Academy, Maplewood-Richmond Heights, Miller Career Academy, North County, Notre Dame (Cape Girardeau), Pacific, Principia, Rockwood Summit, Roosevelt, Sikeston, St. Clair, St. Francis Borgia, St. James, St. Pius X (Festus), Ste. Genevieve, Steelville, Sullivan, Union, Windsor (Imperial).

District 2: Champions, History, and Heavyweight Firepower Host: Mexico High School | February 13–14 District 2 blends proven champions with historic pursuits, featuring three Class 1 top-10 teams. No. 6 St. Charles West, No. 8 Fort Zumwalt South, and No. 9 Brookfield.

Chasing History All eyes will be on Jayden Keller (Brookfield) at 110 pounds. The No. 1-ranked senior is attempting something only a select few have ever accomplished, a fourth Missouri state title. Every match brings her closer to legacy status as she looks to repeat her own history and bring home a 4th State Title, something that has only been accomplished 3 times in Missouri’s history or Women’s Wrestling. Keller looks to put her name with some of Missouri’s greatest including: Faith Cole of Lafayette (Wildwood), Haley Ward of Fort Osage, and Maddie Kubicki of Park Hill South. At 125 pounds, Mackinzie Brewer (Fulton) looks to secure her second straight state championship, but the road is anything but easy. Alexis Ruff (Warrenton) sits right behind her in the rankings, setting up a potential district showdown with major seeding implications.

Momentum Matters Few wrestlers carry more momentum into districts than Jena Gumahin (Fort Zumwalt South). A two-time finalist, Gumahin owns one of the biggest wins of the season including a 4-3 KC Stampede finals victory over Missouri No. 1 Sydney Stifter. With Nixa now in Class 2, this could be Gumahin’s year to reclaim the top step.

145 Pounds: The Queen of Class 1 At 145, Breanne Gibbs (Moberly) continues to dominate. A three-time state champion and undefeated senior, Gibbs enters her final postseason run with one goal: four straight titles. Every challenger knows what’s coming—and few have found answers. Class 1 looks to try and add to the history books with a potential second 4 time state champion in the same year.

Class 1 District 2 Blair Oaks, Boonville, Brookfield, California, Carrollton, Centralia, Chillicothe, Fatima, Ft. Zumwalt East, Ft. Zumwalt South, Fulton, Hallsville, Hannibal, Highland, Holden, Kirksville, Luther St. Charles, Macon, Marceline, Marshall, McCluer North, Mexico, Moberly, North Callaway, Orchard Farm, Owensville, Palmyra, Parkway North, South Calloway, Southern Boone, St. Charles West, St. Charles, STEAM Academy, Tipton, Trenton, Warrenton, Winfield, Wright City.

District 3: Collision Courses and Match-of-the-Year Potential Host: Buffalo High School | February 13–14 District 3 brings high drama and elite matchups, highlighted by No. 3 Marshfield and No. 7 Odessa anchoring the field.

115 Pounds: A District Final for the Ages Defending state champion Lillian McCleary (Lone Jack) sits atop the rankings, but standing across the bracket is Carlynn Mynatt (Marshfield)—a returning state medalist with the tools to change the narrative. If these two meet, expect a match that could reshape state seeding.

130 Pounds: Elite vs. Elite The potential finals between Rylie Ingrassia (Harrisonville) and Emily Bischoff (Odessa) is one of the most anticipated bouts of districts statewide. Ingrassia brings consistency and experience, while Bischoff, a back-to-back state champion, has been on a tear, undefeated at KMO Cowbelle Duals and a podium presence at every major tournament this season including this years Wonder Woman and KC Stampede.

155 Pounds: No Easy Paths At 155, Lorelei Weaver (Lafayette County) and Analeigh Winchell (Cassville) headline another loaded bracket. Both are returning state medalists, and both believe this is their year to stand alone.

District 4: The Dynasty Defends Host: Kearney High School | February 13–14 There is no avoiding it – District 4 runs through Kearney. The No. 1-ranked Bulldogs enter districts seeking their fourth consecutive state team championship, and the depth of their lineup continues to separate them from the field.

Next Generation Stars Freshman Zolah Williams has already proven she belongs among Missouri’s elite. Ranked No. 1 at 105 in Missouri and No. 13 Nationally, Williams is chasing history as a freshman state champion and could be the spark that powers Kearney’s next title run. Zolah has had an incredible freshman season with huge placements at Women’s Ironman (third), KC Stampede (second), and a found herself on top of the podium at this years Wonder Woman. At 190, Carli Vargas returns as the defending Class 1 state champion and has looked dominant all season. Another title would further cement her as one of the most accomplished wrestlers in program history. Vargas is another Kearney Elite who has added some notable placements as well finishing runner-up at the Women’s Ironman and KC Stampede, and winning this years Wonder Woman.

Key Matchups to Watch

  • Myla Woolridge (Kearney) vs. Annabelle Dunlap (Winnetonka) at 110
