Most high school conferences around Missouri have a set dual schedule that allows each school to host several home duals and travel to the various other schools within their conference. The outcome of those duals determines both the team conference championship and the individual all-conference honors for that season. Mexico’s Conference, the NCMC, voted to condense their dual schedule to a one-day dual tournament. This decision did free up several dates for all of the teams involved (both the boys’ and girls’ teams) on their season schedule to pick up some non-conference competition dates that they wouldn’t be able to schedule otherwise.
The Lady Bulldogs were scheduled to compete in all five of their conference duals in one fell swoop. They entered the conference tournament with an undefeated mark of 6-0 in duals prior to this.
Highlights:
During the first round of action, the two Abigails (Bowen and Seibert) in Mexico’s lineup came up big for their team. Both had tough draws with their opponents being very experienced, one of them a returning state qualifier. Even though they didn’t win their matches, because they only gave up a decision and a major decision versus pins, this kept the score close enough for their teammates to pick them up and secure the dual win by taking the last two weights (190 and 235).
During rounds 2-4, Mexico wouldn’t face any stiff competition as a team with the number of forfeits their opponents were giving up and pushed their winning streak up to 10 duals in a row…
