Liberty completes sweep of Kansas City Northland powers

By Chris Geinosky

LIBERTY – Kearney. Check. Park Hill. Check. Staley. Check. Liberty, the No. 1-ranked team in the state according to MissouriWrestling.com, has completed the gauntlet. The Blue Jays have defeated the top high school wrestling teams in the Kansas City Northland area – or namely the best the metro annually has to offer.

“It’s just awesome,” Liberty senior Callum Trester said. “From my freshman year to my senior year, this team has improved by leaps and bounds. It’s amazing how far we’ve come. To say that I’ve been part of this success, it means a lot to me.”

Liberty’s most recent accomplishment occurred Tuesday, Jan. 14, at the friendly confines of the Liberty High School Fieldhouse – a victory against neighboring rival Staley that puts the Blue Jays in the driver’s seat of the Suburban Red Conference chase. A dual pitting two reigning Class 4 all-state teams from a season ago, top-ranked Liberty held off No. 3 Staley, 42-24.
