It was a glorious and a rough night at the same time for the Lebanon girls wrestling team Saturday at Bartle Hall in Kansas City in the Kansas City Stampede Tournament.
An unfortunate incident happened in the 125-pound championship match between Lebanon’s Halea Bartel and Nixa’s Brenya Crahan. Bartel got knocked out during the match when she got taken down and was unconscious for several minutes before an ambulance came to take her to a local hospital.
It was a tragic accident that happened during a night that could have been special for the Yellowjackets, a team that has won two of three state championships since girls wrestling was implemented in Missouri in 2019.
The team once again showed why it’s the top girls program in Missouri as Lebanon blew away the competition with 297 points to take home the team title of the tournament. The next closest team was Nixa, which was second with 129 points.
The Yellowjackets had a wrestler place in the top six in 12 out of the 14 weight classes in the tournament, with four taking first place, which included Jessa Joiner (110), Bailey Joiner (135), Quincey Glendenning (130) and Mariyah Brumley (194).
“I think it’s awesome,” Glendenning said of the team’s success. “I think it helps that we all get along so well and we all work really hard in the room.”
Below is a summary of the top Missouri finishers of each weight class:
