Lawson, Lathrop, Mid-Buchanan, Gallatin lead the top heavy Class 1 District 4 field

By: Ross Martin

The contenders for the Class 1 District 4 title will be obvious. The order of finish could go a lot of directions.

Lawson will look to reclaim the team crown behind seven returning state qualifiers, including three-time district champion, two-time state champion and three-time state finalist Tyler Ross at 170, while defending champion Lathrop still has the strongest contingent returning state qualifiers with eight while aiming for the district repeat. The Mules’ crop includes previous medalists Drystin Dotson, Andrew Beane, Tanner Dalinghaus, Tyler Paul, Dorian Walters and Quinton Wolfe. Dalinghaus, a senior, is the only other previous state champion in the field, having won it at 106 as a freshman.

And could this be the year Mid-Buchanan makes a push to the top of the standings? Notably, the Dragons have five returning state qualifiers, including three-time state qualifier and senior Tim Speer.

Going into this weekend’s 16-team tournament at Mid-Buchanan, Lawson, Lathrop and Mid-Buchanan all have eight wrestlers in the top six or honorable mention spots of the Class 1 missouriwrestling.com rankings. Gallatin comes in right behind with five.
