In the most recent edition of a rivalry series prone to emotional, dramatic finishes, Kearney erased any doubt from the outset and didn’t look back. The Bulldogs piled up eight pins on Tuesday night in a Suburban Conference Blue Division dual with Platte County on the way to a 54-19 victory at Platte County High School.
Kearney opened up a big lead and wrapped up the win with sophomore Eli Ashcroft’s 15-second pin in the 120-pound match. There were still five matches remaining but no chance of a comeback for the Pirates.
“Tonight was a great team performance,” Kearney coach Jake Hill said. “We know Platte County, coming in, is always going to be really well coached; they’re very physical, real tough, ready to go so we put on a good effort tonight — good show.”
The dual starting at 160 provided a pivotal matchup at the outset.
