Smithville senior Alex Hutchcraft has been a model of consistency for the wrestling team.
The past three seasons, Hutchcraft has averaged 39 wins per year during high school Folkstyle competition.

He’s been a state runner up as a sophomore and junior and finished sixth as a freshman. So far this season, he’s having the best season of his career with a 33-5 record, and in Thursday’s dual with Grandview, he achieved a huge milestone.
Hutchcraft (157 pounds)picked up the 150th win of his career after pinning Nathan Ly with a cradle in 2:24, highlighting his team’s 58-21 victory against the Bulldogs on the road.
“It’s pretty awesome,” Hutchcraft said. “Not everyone gets to hit 100 let alone 150. I have been looking forward to getting this. I never dreamed of it.”
Smithville head coach Taylor Middleton praised Hutchcraft for being a leader and a model for the other Warriors on the team.
“Alex is a great kid who comes from a great family,” Middleton said. “He’s been a great leader for us since he was a younger kid in our program. The way he goes about his business is just a testament about the kind of kid he is.”
Hutchcraft also got to witness his brother Cannon Hutchcraft (144), a sophomore junior varsity, get a victory against Grandview. Cannon was filling in for Brennen Green, who was sitting out due to being close to the 45-match limit imposed by MSHSAA. Cannon pinned Marzell Sullivan in 5:26…
