Fort Osage takes the team top spot at Grain Valley

Fort Osage sophomore 285-pounder Stevie Gabb admitted that he didn’t know how good his team was going to be this season.

The Indians graduated two state qualifiers from last season’s squad and returned three with any state tournament wrestling experience. Despite being a young team, Fort Osage doesn’t lack experience, according to head coach Brandon Wackerman.

“This is the first tournament I have won since I’ve been at Fort Osage,” Wackerman said, “so I am pretty excited about that. “We’re a young team. Thursday night, I think we had six wrestlers who were in their first varsity duel ever. Even though we’re young, most of them aren’t experienced necessarily.
