The Odessa boys wrestling team has been strong in recent years.
It has earned seven state plaques (given to the top four teams in each Class) since 2000 and has been one of the premier programs in the Kansas City metro area.

That squad could be one to watch as proven at Wednesday’s Fort Osage Scramble tournament. It was a tournament that featured junior varsity boys and girls wrestling and it had smaller round robin brackets in each weight class.
The Bulldogs dominated in the tournament, having six wrestlers capture first-place honors in their brackets, the most out of seven teams at the tournament. Staley had the second most first-place finishers with four and Raymore Peculiar had three.
“I sure hope so,” Odessa 115-pounder Brianna Ford said shen asked if her team could win a state plaque this season. “I feel like we have a pretty solid lineup with our girls this year. Some of them are pretty good, especially our upcoming freshmen.
Ford was one of the six Bulldogs to win her weight bracket. She won by fall in both of her matches and spent 2 minutes, 10 seconds total on the mat.
“The half (nelson) was working pretty well for me,” Ford said. “The ankle pick was also working well, but I need to work on my shots.”
