Drury Wrestling over William Jewell

LIBERTY, Mo.– The Drury Panthers won their Great Lakes Valley Conference opener on Wednesday with a 21-6 win over William Jewell in Liberty, Missouri on Wednesday.
 
The two teams competed in six weight classes with four determined no contests by mutual forfeit.
 
Brandon Borlinghaus opened the dual with a quick pin at 133 pounds in just over a minute in the first period. Ethan Smith, at 174 pounds, also won by fall in the first period, and Will Kuster gathered a win and improved his record to 12-1 on the season with a win by medical forfeit at 165 pounds. Trevor Christian hung on for a 7-5 victory over Connor Johnston as the Panthers won four of the six matches.

“We are grateful to compete and enjoyed some good performances,” said Drury head coach James Reynolds. “Every program is navigating some difficult times right now and we are all doing our very best to stay focused and on the mat. We will continue to train and compete with an attitude of gratitude the rest of the season.” 

The Panthers will continue GLVC duals on Sunday against Indianapolis at the O’Reilly Family Event Center at 1 pm.
