COLUMBIA — Out of the eight wrestlers Odessa qualified for the Class 2 Missouri State High School Wrestling Championships, just one was a senior.
The Bulldogs have a relatively young team but have proven to be a powerhouse in Class 2. That was evident on Thursday as they scored 142 team points to win their second consecutive state championship at Mizzou Arena.
Seneca finished in second place with 129 points, St. Genevieve was third with 123.5 points and Savannah took fourth with 115.5.
Odessa had two state champions – Blaine Wallace (132 pounds) and Jet Brown (144). Brady Jones (126, second), Kamden Hooper (138, second), Caiden Davidson (150, sixth) and Michael Scott (175, third) earned medals for the Bulldogs.
“We put in work non stop,” Wallace said. “We never stop going. It’s all gas. Not brakes.”
