Class 1 Boys State Recap

The St. Pius X Kansas City Warriors were the team to beat coming into the Class 1 Missouri High School Boys Wrestling Championships. 

No one did.

The Warriors ran away from the competition, taking first place with 234 points after finishing in third last season. Father Tolton Catholic was second with 125 points, Centralia was third with 108 and Brookfield rounded out the trophy winners with 105 points for fourth.

St. Pius had five wrestlers come away with first-place medals and five others who earned medals. The individual champions were Jordan Bell, Gable Gross, Marco Dalakishvili, Jackson Rotterman and Rylan Kuhn all won their brackets for the Warriors.

“We’re all brothers and that’s the best part,” Kuhn said. “We bleed together, work together, we sweat together and we cry together. We knew a team state title was going to come eventually.”

Below is a breakdown of the championship matches of each weight bracket and a list of the state medalists:

106: St. Pius X freshman Jordan Bell won his first state title as a freshman as he hung on for a 6-5 win against Gallatin sophomore Eli Sperry after giving up a reversal and 3-point near fall in the third period.

  • 3rd Place – Christian Noble of Lift for Life Academy Charter
  • 4th Place – Jacob White of Trenton
  • 5th Place – Tucker Tune of Fatima
  • 6th Place – Matthias McGregor of Summit Christian Academy

113: Warsaw sophomore Jayce Estes won his first state championship after not placing last season as he edged Brookfield senior Xavier Sada 5-4. 

State medalists:

  • 1st Place – Jayce Estes of Warsaw
  • 2nd Place – Xaiver Sada of Brookfield
  • 3rd Place – Brandon Brewer of Versailles
  • 4th Place – Dylan Hall of St. Pius X (Kansas City)
  • 5th Place – Charlie Ruether of Father Tolton Regional Catholic
  • 6th Place – Caleb Moore of Central (New Madrid County)

120: Holden senior Daylen Greene closed out his career with a bang after finishing as a runner up last season. He gutted out a 4-3 victory against Lathop sophomore Garrett Beane. Greene got a takedown with 13 seconds left in regulation to win it.

“It feels unreal,” Greene said. “This is a long time coming.”

State medalists:

  • 3rd Place – Alex Martin of Penney
  • 4th Place – Andrew Garcia of St. Pius X (Kansas City)
  • 5th Place – Nolan Laux of Fatima
  • 6th Place – Rhett Pollard of Macon

126: Father Tolton Catholic sophomore Christopher Ankenman is halfway to winning four state titles as he won his second won following a 4-0 victory vs. Rock Port senior Augustus Heintz.

State medalists:

  • 1st Place – Christopher Ankenman of Father Tolton Regional Catholic
  • 2nd Place – Augustus Heintz of Rock Port
  • 3rd Place – Cody Strope of Fatima
  • 4th Place – Charlie Robinson of Centralia
  • 5th Place – Ryder Techau of Brookfield
  • 6th Place – Kalan Fallert of Valle Catholic

132: Brookfield junior Peyton Parn was happy with how he wrestled all the way up until the final period of his championship match with St. Pius junior Dillan Chisam. Parn cruised to a 9-2 victory for his third consecutive state championship.

“I was very pleased with how I wrestled all the way to the finals,” Parn said. “I did well in the first two periods but got kind of lazy in the last period.”

State medalists:

  • 2nd Place – Dillan Chisam of St. Pius X (Kansas City)
  • 3rd Place – Ethan Doss of Lift for Life Academy Charter
  • 4th Place – Robbie Lasky of Lone Jack
  • 5th Place – Blake Eads of Sherwood
  • 6th Place – Rowdy Narron of Father Tolton Regional Catholic

138: North Callaway senior Lane Kimbley said he wrestled smart and it showed in his finals match with Father Tolton junior Chase Anderson. He won 8-3 to close out his career with his first state championship.

“I took what he gave me,” Kimbley said of his championship match. “He was stepping really hard and swinging really big. I just dropped down and went to a shot.”

State medalists:

  • 2nd Place – Grant Anderson of Father Tolton Regional Catholic
  • 3rd Place – Damian Alkire of Butler
  • 4th Place – Mason Rongey of Trenton
  • 5th Place – Gage Judd of Versailles
  • 6th Place – Tyler Kloeppel of Fatima
