Butler Wins Championship at Bob Smith Open, Wisman Earns Fourth at Nittany Lion Open

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Wrestling had six grapplers compete in two tournaments on Sunday (Dec. 6). Freshman 149-pounder Alex Butler (Rockford, Ill.) highlighted the day for #TigerStyle, grabbing the 149-pound weight class championship at the Bob Smith Open in Hays, Kan. Four other wrestlers competed in the Open, while one Mizzou wrestler competed at the Nittany Lion Open in State College, Pa.

Butler defeated his first round opponent, Forlanda Parker of Newman, by way of a 15-4 major decision before advancing to the quarterfinals due to an injury to his opponent. Butler moved onto the finals after picking up decision wins in the quarterfinals and semifinals. In the finals, Butler defeated William Homalon of Fort Hays State with a 12-6 decision.

Freshman 174-pounder Dylan Wisman (Winchester, Va.) was the sole #TigerStyle competitor at the Nittany Lion Open, finishing in fourth place of the 174-pound weight class. Wisman grabbed two wins, one by fall (2:18), before falling in the quarterfinals to Casey Kent of Penn. In the consolation bracket, Wisman advanced to the third place match with three wins, one by way of a 13-3 major decision over Brian Brill of Penn. The third place match was a rematch with Kent, who defeated Wisman with a 16-6 major decision.
