Class 1 Districts Set the Stage for Columbia

The road to the 2026 Missouri Girls High School State Wrestling Championships officially kicks off February 25th through the 28th in Columbia, MO, and if the district tournaments were any indication, Class 1 is about to put on a show. All four districts battled it out February 13th-14th at 4 host schools (DeSoto, Mexico, Buffalo, and Kearney). From dominant defending champions to fearless freshmen making statements, the brackets at Mizzou are going to be electric.

Youth was the highlight of Class 1 with historical numbers for this freshman class. Class 1 is sending 31 freshmen to state, with 4 freshman district champions and 8 freshman finalist proving the next wave isn’t coming, it’s already here. District 1 showed its young fire power as 11 freshman advanced to state, making up 20% of the qualifiers out of class 1.

District 1 – Youth Movement with a Heavyweight Punch

District 1 belonged to Ste. Genevieve and with a district win like this, they could easily challenge Kearney for to dog.

The Dragons rolled to a dominant 225 team points, qualifying 9 wrestlers. Desoto followed with 172 points and 6 qualifiers, while Rockport finished third with 161.5 and 5 state bids.

Freshman standout Lexi Wolk of Ste. Genevieve met Desoto sophomore Milayna Drummond in a rematch of an earlier-season showdown, one that Drummond had won. This time, Wolk flipped the script. Wolk came out firing securing a late takedown, four nearfall points, and an immediate statement in the first period. The finals turned into a third-period dog fight, but Wolk controlled the pace and closed the door with a 12-6 decision, claiming her first district crown and sending a message to the entire state.

Returning state champion Keely Fallert of Ste. Genevieve bulldozed through 140 pounds, pinning her way into the finals before sticking Trinity Butler of Festus to seal another title. The Dragons flexed their depth and experience, a dangerous combination heading to Columbia.
