Westminster Ready to Kickoff the New Year with a Pair of Quad Duals
Christmas and New Year’s are gone and the Westminster Men’s and Women’s teams are traveling to Augustana College to take part in the Fred Johnson Duals on January 7th. The tournament attendees all have both a men’s and women’s programs so the Blue Jays teams will have their opportunities throughout the day. Besides Westminster and Augustana, Eureka College and Quincy University will be bringing their squads to the tournament as well.
The Westminster Men’s team has been to several different invites and opens during the first half of the season. They are entering these duals 0-6 on the season in dual competitions. However, even with each of these losses, there have been some individual performances that stand out.
One highlight has been senior Montgomery Mills at 197, who has a current pin streak dating back nearly a month. He has pinned his last 9 opponents. His last loss was a 4-2 decision on December 3rd at the Drury Open. At 285, Michael Carpenter also enters these duals with a 4-match win streak on the line. With the men’s team potentially giving up a forfeit or two in the lineup, it will be a tall order (but not impossible) to earn their first team victories of the season and start to build some momentum moving forward.
