The Centralia Dynasty: Panthers Claim Third State Title in Four Years

The Centralia boys wrestling team can officially be considered a dynasty.

The Panthers won their third state wrestling championship in the last four years as they scored 115.5 team points to take home the first-place plaque Thursday at Mizzou Arena in Columbia in the Class 1 Missouri State High School Boys Wrestling Championships.

Marceline took second place with 106.5 points, North Callaway was third with 1-5 and Lathrop took fourth with 87.

Rex Bryson won Centralia’s lone individual title, while Marshall Kable (fifth), Charles Robinson (second), Gradon Hedberg (fifth) and Waylon Adkisson (third) won state medals.

Below is a summary of each championship match and a list of state medalists:

106: Gallatin sophomore Nicholas Larsen jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the first period with a takedown and nearfall against Windsor junior Nico Pushon and never looked back as he won a state title following a 13-2 major decision.

120: Trenton junior Jacob White got a takedown and nearfall in the final 37 seconds that secured his 15-5 major decision win over California junior Connor Farmer to win a state championship.

126: Lathrop senior Garrett Beane won his second consecutive state championship as he took a 9-0 lead against Cameron’s Will Erickson before getting a pin in 2:35 to secure his spot at the top of the podium.

132: St. Pius X Festus freshman Cainen Menke started off his high school career with a bang. He won a state championship following a pin in 5:14 against Lafayette County senior Xavier Myers.

138: Marcelene senior Carter Wallis, who won two state championships with Class 3 Hillsboro in the past, got his third overall and first at the Class 1 level after earning a 11-3 major decision over Centralia junior Charles Robinson.
