2020-2021 Outlook
Keys to success in the 2020-21 season:
We will be a young team with only one senior with wrestling experience. How we fare will depend on our freshmen an sophomores’ ability to learn and adjust quickly.
Concerns about the lineup or challenges for the team this season:
We will have a lot of freshmen and inexperience in the lineup. We’re also working on trying to get guys at the best weights for themselves and the team. We’ve really focused on teaching technique these first four weeks.
Please list any impact freshman or transfers
Parker Crane at 113 and Paxton Martin at 106 bring a lot of youth experience with them. They know how to practice and have great wrestling IQs. I expect big things from them over the next four years. Jake Plummer at 145 could also make an impact right away. Cooper Rhoades is a sophomore who decided to come out at 285. He moves very well and has solid technique. I think he can develop into a very tough heavyweight for us.
Coach’s quote on overall thoughts about the team:
We are going to be a young team, but I am excited by the possibilities. Gavynn Carpenter is going to lead the way for us. He is a leader through the way he wrestles and also vocally. I expect him to contend for a title and others around him to elevate their performance to follow suit. We currently have the most kids out in the 8 years since I have been here with 19 currently. The competition in the room is really good right know and I love it. I think we are going to be pretty tough all the way from 106-145, then we will have to have some guys step up in the upper weights. Paxton Martin at 106 and Parker Crane at 113 will be followed by Kaleb Caldwell at 120 who won 29 matches last year as a freshmen. Gavynn will slot in at 126 or 132 and took 3rd at State last year as a freshman. Stone Martin will follow Gavynn. Stone was a qualifier as a junior, but was out for the last part of last season.
Coach’s quote on expectations for this year’s team:
I expect we might take some lumps as a team early on as freshmen and inexperienced kids get their first taste of action, but by the end of the season I think we are going to have some guys ready for the big stage.

What do you think?
