Talon Worden Redefines What It Means to Be Elite

In a sport where most athletes spend years mastering just one discipline, Talon Worden has taken a different path and it’s one that’s putting him at the top of elite contenders.

The Farmington, Missouri native is currently ranked No. 1 in the country at heavyweight and, according to the MMA/Pankration. But what makes Worden’s story even more compelling is that his dominance isn’t limited to the wrestling mat.

He’s doing it in two sports.

A Path That Started Unexpectedly

For Worden, the journey into mixed martial arts didn’t begin in a gym, it started in the middle of a wrestling tournament.

While competing in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, at just 10 years old, Worden noticed an MMA event taking place in the same building. Instead of just watching, he stepped in to compete.

He signed up for his first fight that day and hasn’t looked back since.

Two Sports, One Mindset

Balancing wrestling and MMA at an elite level isn’t easy, but for Worden, the two go hand in hand.

He credits MMA with sharpening his ability to think faster in high-pressure situations.

“MMA helps me slow positions down in my mind and think through them quicker,” Worden said.

That mental edge has translated directly onto the mat, where he’s built a reputation not just for physical dominance, but for composure and control in key moments.

Built From the Beginning

Worden’s foundation was set early.

He began wrestling at the age of four years old while also training in jiu-jitsu at the same age, which is a rare combination that would shape his future in both sports.

His father, Joe Worden, has coached MMA for more than 20 years and has had Talon around the sport since before he could walk.

That environment didn’t just build skill, it built understanding, discipline, and a level of comfort that most athletes spend years trying to develop.

A Resume That Speaks for Itself

While Worden’s mindset sets him apart, his accomplishments make it undeniable.

Across both wrestling and MMA, he has built one of the most impressive resumes in the country and the world.

He is a:

  • 4x MMA National Champion
  • 2x MMA International Champion
  • 3x MMA World Champion
  • 4x USA District Champion
  • 2x Regional Champion
  • 4x USA State Champion
  • 8x AAU State Champion

Combined with his current No. 1 national ranking in wrestling and through the MMA/Pankration, Worden isn’t just competing, he’s dominating across disciplines.

Faith as the Foundation

Despite competing on some of the biggest stages in the country and the world, Worden approaches competition with a calmness that stands out.

He credits his faith as the foundation.

“My faith in God is what helps me perform under pressure and eases my nerves before big events,” Worden said.

Learning Through Adversity

Even at the top, the journey wasn’t perfect.

One of Worden’s toughest moments came in the finals of Super 32, where a controversial call shifted the momentum and left him trailing late in the match.

For many athletes, moments like that can linger.

For Worden, it became part of the process, which is another layer in building the mindset required to compete at the highest level.

Chasing Greatness on a Global Stage

Next up, Worden will compete internationally on April 5 in Panama City at the U17 Pan-American Games at 90 kg—another step in a career that continues to trend upward.

With goals of wrestling collegiately and eventually transitioning into professional fighting, his path is as ambitious as it is unique.

And based on what he’s already accomplished, it’s a path worth watching closely.

A Message Bigger Than Wrestling

For Worden, success isn’t just about titles or rankings.

It’s about showing what’s possible.

“Just go for it. It doesn’t matter if you come from a small town like Farmington, Missouri,” Worden said

In a state known for producing tough, hard-nosed wrestlers, Worden is proving that Missouri athletes can lead on the national and the world stage.
