High school girls wrestlers finally got their own division in Missouri in 2019 and it has taken off since then.
More and more girls are participating in the sport each year, but for the Staley girls team there have been three who have been wrestling for the program since Day 1.
Those girls are Chloe Sheckells (110), Lexi Hatfield (120) and Emily Colling (149). They had their final home dual Thursday against Liberty North as their team came away with a 48-28 victory on Senior Night.
“We owe so much to them along with the other two seniors,” Staley wrestling coach Nic Brent said. “It’s always bittersweet when they make it to the last year. They are going to be irreplaceable in their own way.
Sheckells, who is a two-time state medalist, got a first-period pin against Hailee Neece.
“I was kind of nervous at first because I didn’t know how it would go,” Schecklls admitted. “But I felt confident in the way I was moving and the way I was wrestling.”
Hatfield won by forfeit, Colling was pinned by Chloe Taylor and fellow senior Lea Grace won by forfeit.
