7 Mizzou 15 #9 Virginia Tech 17
Mizzou hit the road to take on another top ten team, and is coming back with another loss after a tight match with Virginia Tech. Both teams were missing two starters, but Virginia Tech took advantage. Not only did they win both matches, Tech also got a bonus at 125. Surtin remains out, and likely won’t be back until at least the Scuffle. Jacques was also a scratch, but I don’t know why yet. Mizzou won the tough matches at 141 and 149, but Hart, O’Toole, and Rocky were unable to get late bonus points to get the win. Mizzou is now 2-2 to start the season for the first time since the 2020 season.
125lbs: Cooper Flynn Maj. Peyton Moore (13-3)
While this was not Tech’s ranked starter Ventresca, Flynn would also likely be in the top 20 if he were the starter. He is 6-2 on the season, with both losses coming to Ventresca in double overtime. Moore wrestled tough, but clearly needs a season to adjust to college. He will likely get another start against NDSU, but is able to remain on redshirt if he wrestles unattached after that.
