Preview: #12 Mizzou (5-4) vs Long Island (0-4)

Where to Watch: FloWrestling, 6PM (Mat 1)

The Tigers head to Francis Howell High School in St. Charles for the Hustle in the Heartland, where they’ll take on Long Island and Nebraska. First they’ll take on LIU, a school who started D1 competition in 2020. Since then they’ve had one NCAA qualifier in 2024 and a handful of ranked wrestlers. The Tigers are big favorites but there are some interesting matches to look out for before they take on Nebraska. The Cornhuskers will be wrestling Brown University at the same time. Here are some things to look out for throughout this dual.

  1. How healthy are the Tigers?

J Conway made his return against Illinois but Mizzou was still missing Max Mayfield and Cam Steed. Coach Smith mentioned both returning here and the Tigers will need them against Nebraska. I could see them not using Mayfield here if they are worried about load management and saving him for Nebraska. If Steed is healthy though then I think it could be good to get him some mat time before stepping into a big match. If not then look for a mix of Bambinelli/Heiser/Mylin at 165/174.

  1. How many bonus points can they get here?

On paper I feel good about the Tigers ability to get bonus points at 125, 133, 165, 174, 184, 197, and 285. That leaves questions at 141, 149, and 157.
