Payton Weese takes toughness to Fargo, brings back All-American honors

The Marceline product opened with a convincing 10-0 win against Marlie Rigby from Utah. Then, the Missourian lost 9-2 to Washington’s Karianne Baldwin in the round of 16.

With her back against the wall in the double-elimination format, she responded and came home with All-American honors.

“I was surprised when it happened,” Weese said. “I had only been wrestling for a few years, so to accomplish something that big was great. I was just going up to wrestle and enjoy the experience. I had a goal to do good and place, but now that I did that, I really did it, it is a lot more exciting.”

The trip to the FargoDome in North Dakota was her first national tournament.
