The last major freestyle tournament this spring took place last Saturday at Fort Osage High School.
The tournament, which is run by GroWrestling, had a total of 434 wrestlers compete and included three kids divisions, a high school 16-and-under (cadet), high school girls and a high school junior divisions.
Among the high school girls, there were 17 round-robin brackets. Below is a summary of the highest placers from Missouri in each division:
97-104 pounds: MO West’s Lexi Newman edged Willard Wrestling’s Chloe Kirksey 7-4, topped Basehor-Linwood’s Lydia Robinette 10-5 and got a tech fall win in her other match as she took first place.
104-112: Willard Wrestling’s Lynnae Dixon earned two wins by tech fall and one by pin as she took her bracket.
106-114: Willard Wrestling’s Alexeah Lilly pinned two of her opponents and had one 10-0 win as she cruised to a first-place finish.
116-123: Jackson County’s Natalie Nammavaly finished in third place after winning one of three matches. Her lone win came on a pin against MO West’s Kendra Oswald.
118-127: Tech Fall Elite’s Braylee Farr has been on a roll and won her division in three consecutive freestyle tournaments. She earned two wins by tech fall and one by pin to take her bracket.
120-131: Tech Fall Elite’s Mckenzy Mason, like her teammate Farr, has won her bracket in three consecutive tournaments as she had two wins by tech fall and one by pin to capture first place.
123-131: MO West’s Jorgie Johnston won her first match 12-6 against Greater Heights’ Abigail Monaco and she pinned her final two opponents to win her bracket.
123-130: Excelsior Springs’ Lillian Goetz went 2-1 in her bracket as she won a match 9-4 and another 10-5 as she finished as the runner-up.
130-138: Tech Fall Elite’s Alyssa Landwehr earned a tough 13-10 victory against Leavenworth Takedown Club’s Mckenzie Eagle and she got two other wins by tech fall and pin as she took first place.
136-143: MO West’s Piper Hamilton won by fall in the first period in two of her matches and got a tech fall in another as she cruised to a bracket win.
142-156: MO West’s Hope Pearson had two pins, including one in 14 seconds, and she won a match 11-0 as she dominated her bracket to take first place.
143-155: Nixa’s Natalie Edmisson has been on a roll as she also won at the Fight or Flight freestyle tournament and in this one, she pinned all of her opponents in the first period as she rolled to first place.
148-157: MO West’s Kaylee Scott had little trouble winning her bracket as she won two matches 10-0 and won her other match by pin to take first.
157-167: Jackson County’s Joanna Hinrichs steamrolled her competition as she pinned all three of her opponents in the first period to earn first.
167-171: Willard Wrestling’s Emily Brixey earned two wins by tech fall and she took down MO West’s Brooklyn Koepkey 10-4 to win her division.Share
