Mizzou Wrestlers Dominate in Conference Opener Against Oklahoma

#3 Mizzou over #12 Oklahoma (30-12)

The Tigers came out and for the most part took care of business to start their conference competition with a win. Surtin, Mauller, O’Toole, Mocco, and Whiting all scored impressive bonus points to separate from the Sooners. Intense matches occurred at 133, 141, 149, and 285 where the teams split wins.

After the dual Coach Smith and the wrestlers said they felt like they came out a bit sluggish, so look out for an even better performance against Wyoming coming up next week.

Interviews:

285 lbs: #5 Zach Elam Dec. #14 Josh Heindselman (2-1)

With Zach wanting to be on the bus to the Cougar Clash, the teams started at 285lbs. Zach came out and did what he had to do, scoring a quick escape and a third period rideout.

The only point he gave up was a stall point after two warnings, one in neutral and the other from the top position. The second stall was maybe warranted, but it didn’t feel like Zach wasn’t attempting a turn. A solid win against a dangerous conference opponent….
