Mizzou Tigers: NCAA Day 2

Mizzou – 55.0 Points (5th Place)

After Day II Mizzou is in a solid spot in the tournament, but there are some clear spots that are likely keeping them from another team trophy. They put five on the podium, which is their most since 2017 and ties the program record. O’Toole made the finals, while Rocky, Zach, Mocco, and Mauller will be wrestling for placement spots. A very solid day for Mizzou, but the Tigers were razor close in multiple matches to really breaking through. They have more chances to get some more points tomorrow, but they’re behind 4th place Ohio State by seven points currently.

125lbs: (14) Noah Surtin – DNP (1-2)

  • 1st Round: (19) Braxton Brown, Maryland Dec. Noah Surtin (8-6)
  • Consolations: Noah Surtin Fall (32) Tanner Jordan, SDSU (4:26)
  • Consolations: (20) Jarrett Trombley, NC State Dec. Noah Surtin (2-1)

In Surtin’s first match of the day he had a tough match in Trombley, who had taken four-seed Matt Ramos to the brink the day before. Surtin was winning the ties and in good positions, but Trombley wasn’t giving up a big move. In the third period of a 1-1 match, Surtin’s knee got torqued while Trombley had it shelved in what was close to a stalemate. That injury time gave Trombley choice, and he escaped with short time left to get the win. Not the tournament expected, but no bad losses for Surtin in a weight class that went absolutely wild….
