#18 Mizzou over #19 West Virginia (26-13)
Missouri won six matches including three bonus point wins to take out the Mountaineers and improve their record to 11-7 overall and 4-2 in the Big 12. They went from 1-4 in the first five to winning out to finish the dual after intermission. In three of their losses the match was within a takedown with short time.
Below I’ll dive into my 5 huge takeaways
- The first three matches were painfully similar.
- Easton Hilton had an opportunity but came up just short.
- Seth Mendoza impresses with just one date left.
- J Conway may be the guy at 165 going forward.
- Upperweights impressed to clinch the dual.
The lineup continues to look murky at 141, with a potential new starter at 165 getting a quick win. The Tigers looked solid against a good West Virginia team and here are some takeaways.
Let’s dive in:
- The first three matches were painfully similar.
Starting at 125 Missouri went 0-3 with a lone takedown being the difference. Mack Mauger and Gage Walker were wrestling well against higher ranked opponents until third period takedowns put the match out of reach. Also in both matches their opponent was the one in on legs as time was expiring. They had opportunities at times but were never overly aggressive until too late in the match. The narrowness of the match to those points was solid, but dropping those matches like that were frustrating to watch. Easton Hilton had a similar match, but a different strategy that leads to my next takeaway.
