Mizzou at Maryville Open

While the Tigers didn’t send starters, a number of Mizzou wrestlers got an opportunity to compete at the Maryville Kaufman Open this Saturday. There were four wrestlers in the Amateur Division, with true freshmen Carter McCallister (149) and Jarrett Stoner (285) being joined by redshirt freshmen Preston Spray (125), Preston Spray (133), and Owen Uhls (141). Moore won his first match 19-1, but after a 16-3 major decision loss medically forfeited.

The other four young wrestlers won titles in dominant fashion. McCallister outscored his opponents 66-3 with four techs. Stoner went tech, fall, and a major in the finals. Spray and Uhls both had dominant matches, with only one regular decision win each.

Wrestlers in the Elite Division included Korbin Shepherd (133), Joel Mylin (149), Jeremy Jakowitsch (157), James Conway (157), Brant Whitaker (165), Ellis Pfleger (174), Jesse Cassatt (197), and Tommy Hagan (197).

Shepherd and Conway both won titles, while Joel Mylin made the finals. Shepherd looked solid with two bonus wins before a one sided decision in the finals…
