How the Next Wave of Missouri Wrestling Talent Is Taking Shape
As Missouri’s elementary wrestlers continue to raise the bar nationally, the state’s Middle School athletes are proving to be just as impressive and, in many cases, even more dominant. This age group represents the crucial bridge between youth development and high-school success, and the level of skill, parity, and national recognition in these rankings proves that Missouri’s future is in strong hands.
From breakout stars to returning champions to wrestlers collecting national hardware across Folkstyle, Freestyle, and Greco, the 2024–25 middle school field is overflowing with high-level talent, intriguing rematches, and storyline-defining battles that could shift the rankings early and often.

Below is the breakdown
Top Storylines & Matchups to Watch
75 lbs: A Race for #2 That Might Be the Best Battle in the Entire Middle School Ranking
The depth at 75 lbs is unreal, and the fight for No. 2 between #2 Chasen Burke and #3 Liam King is as tight as it gets.
Their Super 32 match ended in late drama with a clasping call on King allowed Burke to escape with the win. The rivalry is far from settled, and both wrestlers bring contrasting styles that make for electric matchups.
Prediction: Whoever wins the rematch will likely see their stock rise across national rankings as well.
80 lbs: Landon Edwards vs. Quentin Neal — A Must See Rematch
One of the most anticipated rematches in the state features #1 Landon Edwards (Xtreme Trained) and #2 Quentin Neal (Greater Heights).
Their state match last year was one of the best of the entire Missouri Youth State tournament, and while Edwards came out on top, Neal has since gone on a tear with collecting multiple national accolades in both Folkstyle and Freestyle.
The question now: Has Neal closed the gap enough to flip the result, or will Edwards’ consistency keep him at the top?
Either way, this is must-watch wrestling.
120 lbs: Technique vs. Power — Rocky Thompson vs. Gabriel White
This matchup has everything:
- #1 Rocky Thompson (Open Mats) elite technician, superb pace, one of Missouri’s top P4P athletes.
- #2 Gabriel White (Purler) explosive strength, heavy hands, and serious stopping power.
White is one of the most physically imposing wrestlers in any middle school weight. The question: Will that strength disrupt Thompson’s elite timing and setups?
This is a classic style clash and whichever wrestler dictates the tempo will win.
140 lbs: Is Walter Taylor Ready to Challenge Adam Rea?
#1 Adam Rea (Sedalia) has long been the guy at 140 lbs and consistently dominants against top competition.
But #2 Walter Taylor (Rouge Warrior) is surging after a standout performance at Preseason Nationals. His pace, aggression, and conditioning could push Rea harder than anyone has in the past year.
This weight class might be Missouri’s next breakout national spotlight.
