Missouri Valley College Men’s Wrestling Ranked No. 12, Seven Individuals Ranked

Marshall, Mo., (Oct. 28, 2021)- The Missouri Valley College men’s wrestling team will open its 2021-22 season ranked No. 12 in the NAIA Men’s Wrestling Coaches’ Preseason Top 20 Poll, released Thursday.  The team also has seven individually ranked wrestlers.

The Viking men’s wrestling team finished last season with three All-Americans, and No. 15 overall at the 2021 NAIA Men’s Wrestling National Championship.  The team is ranked No. 12 to open this season, and is one of three programs from the Heart of America Athletic Conference Nationally ranked.  Grand View (Iowa) is No. 1, and Baker (Kan.) is No. 5.

Two of last season’s All-Americans return and are ranked to open the season.  Junior Joshua Isaac (Woodbridge, Va.) is ranked No. 4 at 285 pounds, and Senior Hayden Wempen (Riverton, Wyo.) is ranked No. 7 at 174 pounds.  Other ranked individuals include:

No. 14 Sophomore Brayden Bradley (Belton, Mo.) at 125 pounds.

No. 15 Junior Joseph Rice (New Plymouth, Idaho) at 141 pounds.

No. 12 Senior William Seibert (Farmington, Mo.) at 165 pounds.

No. 11 Senior Ottis Peeler (Kansas City, Mo.) at 184 pounds.

No. 15 Senior Karim Shakur (Martin City, Calif.) at 197 pounds.

The Viking men’s wrestling team will hold its annual Purple and Orange Dual Nov. 2 at 7 p.m., and the regular season opens with the Kaufman-Brand Open in St. Louis, Mo., Nov. 6.  The first regular season home event will be a dual against William Penn (Iowa), Nov. 17.
