Some of the best in the state competed in the Missouri USA Boys Greco State Tournament last Sunday at the Mathewson Exhibition Center in Sedalia.

There were four different divisions – kids, 14-and-under, cadet and junior. The top two finishers in each weight class qualified to compete on the Missouri National team that will travel to Tulsa to participate in the National Dual Tournament.

Below are breaks down each weight class and the winners of each one in the cadet and junior divisions.

94: Fort Osage freshman Kaison Schreier will now represent the boys in freestyle and greco on the national teams as he won both of his matches by tech fall in his round-robin bracket to take first.

100: Park Hill’s Mason Brayfield had a couple of close matches as he won 3-1 Farmington’s Aiden Hahn and topped Hillsboro’s Evan Litzsinger 7-5 to earn a gold medal.

106: Hannibal’s Austin Brown got two pins and a tech fall to punch his ticket to Tulsa as he breezed through his bracket.

113: Columbia Hickman’s Hank Benter won the high school folkstyle state tournament in February, he won the freestyle tournament the day before then completed the trifecta by winning his Greco bracket last Saturday.

“I just got in my basics and got in an arm drag,” Benter said. “I got a gutwrench in and it worked.”
