When winter storms hit Missouri, schools and wrestling programs have to be able to adapt to the situation and move forward. So when events are postponed/cancelled due to severe weather, schedule changes/additions were expected. The Mexico Lady Bulldogs missed a full week of school, practices and competitions during the early part of January and Coach Senor had to get creative on getting his team to where he wanted them prior to the postseason. Even if this meant going to a tournament without any District 2 opponents.
The Lexington Scramble featured several Kansas City area schools, which gave the Lady Bulldogs unique looks on the mat that they wouldn’t normally see until the state tournament. Despite it being a smaller mid-week tournament, the Lexington Scramble featured several ranked wrestlers across the weights.
Overall the Mexico Lady Bulldogs had 19 individual matches during the evening. They ended up winning seven of them. Six of their wins were by pin. Two of the Lady Bulldogs came away with first place finishes in their bracket. Addison Paden (140 lbs.) and Alexus Johns (235 lbs).
Up Next:
The Mexico Lady Bulldogs will have just a couple of days to prepare for one of their tougher regular season stretches. First up is the Seckman tournament on Saturday February 1st. There are 36 teams scheduled to attend this tournament. Out of those 36, six of them are District 2 opponents, and one team (Festus) is ranked 2nd in the latest team rankings. The Lady Bulldogs will have a quick turn-around and will wrestle Monday, February 3rd, at the NCMC Conference Dual Championship. This event was scheduled for earlier in January but was rescheduled due to inclement weather. The Lady Bulldogs will close out their regular season at the Lady Thundering Herd Invite, hosted by Buffalo H.S on Friday February 7th.
