After a 3-dual win evening at their most recent quad meet, the Lady Bulldogs would be looking to add some momentum to their run towards the postseason as well as increase the seeding status against the District 2 opponents Mexico would see at the Chillicothe Lady Hornets Invite. In all the tournament had seven District 2 opponents for the Lady Bulldogs, including Brookfield, Chillicothe, Marceline, Boonville, Macon, Kirksville, and Southern Boone (whom they beat in a dual earlier this week). Among these teams, there are several returning state medalists/qualifiers, which made this tournament a tough test for the Lady Bulldogs.
It was a trying day for the Lady Bulldogs as they got off to a slow start. The only one to win a match in the opening round of competition was Ericka Pech at 155 lbs., who made her season debut for the Bulldogs this weekend. In the second round of wrestling, again a singular Lady Bulldog (Addison Paden) would notch a victory. Paden would earn a second period pin against her opponent from Chillicothe. However, for Paden, it would be her only win on the day and she would finish her day 1-2. After that win, the Lady Bulldogs would have one of their hands raised just one more time the rest of the day. (Pech in the final round of the tournament).
Overall the Mexico Lady Bulldogs would finish 3-14 in their seventeen matches contested. The best individual performance of the tournament for Mexico was Ericka Pech at 155 lbs. She would finish in 3rd place in her bracket while earning two wins against District 2 opponents Macon and Bonnville.
Up Next:
The Lady Bulldogs will have a quick turn-around as they will be hosting their own tournament on Monday January 20th, the Brick City Classic. The Lady Bulldogs have 20 teams scheduled to attend and out of those 20, nearly half of them are District 2 opponents. The Lady Bulldogs recently added the Lexington Girls Scramble to their schedule (January 23rd) to make up the tournament they missed due to weather earlier this month (Capital City Girls Tournament). They will then have another break in competition until Saturday February 1st, where they will travel back to Seckman HS for their girls tournament.
