Finals week and a wrestling tournament are now a traditional combination among the Mexico Lady Bulldogs wrestling team. First two years they had attended the Blair Oaks tournament and then in more recent memory the Eldon Lady Mustangs Invitational. Looking for a step up in the level of competition, the Lady Bulldogs added the Battle of Katy trail tournament to their schedule. A two-day event made up of 48 Class One schools and among them a large portion of their District 2 Tournament opponents and several top-ranked teams in the state. The few that were not there, The Lady Bulldogs have them on the schedule over the next month.
For several of the newcomers, this will be their first multi-day wrestling event. It will be a good test to see how they will handle consecutive weigh-ins, being able to reset, and the overall physical and mental stamina that a multi-day wrestling tournament requires. A few of the
The tournament started with pool play for a few rounds before the wrestlers were placed into brackets. After that, most of the Mexico team had their first bracketed match as well before calling it a day.
Round Robin Highlights:
Some of the Lady Bulldogs had byes in the first round due to bracket sizes. But they didn’t have to wait long to get on the team scoreboard. Karisa Hayden, Alexus Johns, and Alizabeth Welch notched pins in the 2nd round or Round -Robin.
