After a longer than anticipated Christmas Break due to inclement weather and having two events being cancelled last week (NCMC Conference Duals and Cap City Classic), the Lady Bulldogs were anxious to get the second half of their season underway. The Lady Bulldogs hosted their second quad meet of the season, this time against Southern Boone, Eldon, and Orchard Farm.
Two of the three schools are District 2 opponents (Orchard Farm and Southern Boone). Both Southern Boone and Eldon had a pair of state-ranked wrestlers in their lineups to match up against the Lady Bulldogs who also had a pair of state-ranked wrestlers. The only matchup of the night that featured two ranked wrestlers was in round 2 of the quad against Southern Boone at 135 lbs. Abigail Bowen, currently 6th at 135 lbs and Zafaran Satterfield who was ranked 7th at 140 lbs heading into the dual.
This their third time wrestling each other in as many seasons with each one of them winning one match each. Both girls appeared to be even at the initial hand fighting sequence with Satterfield looking for a 2-on-1. But with a quick movement, Bowen was able to secure a front headlock followed quickly by a nearside cradle to pin her opponent in 23 seconds. This pin would prove to be the pivotal match of the dual as the Lady Bulldogs were down 18-6 entering that match. After that point, momentum kicked in and Mexico would go on to win the dual 42-24.
Another one of those matches during their dual vs. Southern Boone, while significant in helping the team out, was a little more significant for the individual who earned that win. Alexus Johns, reached the 100-win mark with her victory at the 235 lbs. weight class against Southern Boone. She is the second Mexico Lady Bulldog to reach that mark in the program’s five-year history.
In addition, several of the Mexico ladies would go 3-0 on the night. In addition to the aforementioned wrestlers (Bowen and Johns), Marali Hererra (140 lbs.), Jazzmin Torres (155 lbs.), and Yolitza Rios (170 lbs.) also finished the night with three wins.
As a team, Mexico would also go 3-0 on the night. They entered the evening with a 2-3 record, and improved their season dual record to 5-3. Their next set of duals on the schedule is the rescheduled NCMC Conference Dual Meet on February 3rd.

Up Next:
After an extended break due to weather the Lady Bulldogs will be on the road this weekend at the Chillicothe Lady Hornets Invite. There are 15 total teams scheduled to be in attendance (including Mexico). Out of those fifteen, five of them are District 2 opponents which will give the Lady Bulldogs opportunities to not only gauge their season progress, but earn that important seeding criteria for the District Tournament that is now only four weeks away. They will have a quick turn-around as the Lady Bulldogs will host their tournament, the Brick City Classic on Monday January 20th (MLK Day). The Lady Bulldogs have 20 teams scheduled to attend and out of those 20, nearly half of them are District 2 opponents.
