Mexico Duals Hickman & Battle, Another First For the Young Program

Mexico came into the night with only one dual loss on the season (to Marshall) and sporting an overall record of 10-1 in their dual season.  This record is despite all of the ailments/injuries that this team has dealt with so far this season and has forced their coach to make several changes to the lineup throughout the season as well as the wrestlers being flexible enough to be able to help the team be successful.  This marks the first time in school history the Lady Bulldogs have had a dual versus the Hickman Kewpies.  On the other hand, they have dualed against Battle at least once over the past four seasons.

The day was also unusual for the Lady Bulldogs as they had an inclement weather day and could not go through their typical school day routine.  Mexico’s Head Girls Coach, Tony Senor, put faith in his team to make good choices throughout the day and be there for the team tonight in the hopes of notching out a couple of wins.  And his team did not disappoint.  The ladies understood the assignment and did well as a team throughout the night.

In the end, the Mexico Lady Bulldogs would go 2-0 as a team and improved to an overall mark of 12-1 with six duals left on their schedule over the next month.

The Highlights:

Other than battling Hickman for the first time, the Lady Bulldogs experienced another first in that dual.  For the first time in Mexico’s Lady Bulldog program’s history, there was a pair of sisters in the starting lineup.  After 692 Days from her last match as a sophomore, Senior Katherine Bowen made her return to the Lady Bulldog lineup at 115 lbs. and after her teammates at 100 and 110 took their forfeits, it was her turn to help the team out and she did with a pin her opponent from Hickman early in the second period…
