The postseason is here for Missouri Wrestling and the road to the state podium starts on Friday afternoon (February 14th) in gymnasiums across the state. For those in the northwest sections of the St. Louis metro/county areas and most of Mid-Missouri, that gymnasium will be at Mexico High School in Mexico, MO. The last time Mexico hosted was back in 2021.

There are a total of 38 teams scheduled to be at the District 2 meet and three of those teams are currently ranked in the top 10 for Class 1 Girls. There’s St. Charles West at #6, Ft. Zumwalt South at #8, and Brookfield at #9. Brookfield has finished as a team in the runner-up position each of the last three years at the state tournament. Whereas St. Charles West finished 4th this past season.

For those not familiar with the MSHSAA state qualifying system, the top four in each weight class at each District tournament will earn the right to wrestle at the state tournament two weeks after their respective District Tournament. What that means is that each team mentioned in this article will be vying for as many of those 56 state qualifying spots as they can earn. As stated earlier, 38 teams, vying for those 56 individual slots. There is also a team point aspect to this tournament (like many others during the regular season) and there are several of these teams that will be in the hunt for those as well. The aforementioned top-ranked teams will most likely be in contention for the District title come Saturday evening.

Below are the team-by-team breakdown of each of the teams current standings.

Blair Oaks High School
Returning State Qualifiers: 2 (1 medalist)
Predicted Qualifiers: 2-3
Summary: The Blair Oaks Lady Falcons return two experienced state qualifiers (both of them are returning state medalists). Their lineup has a lot of inexperience and most likely they will only get their top two athletes through to the state tournament. However, they do have a potential darkhorse in the upper weights that could qualify if the bracket falls her way.

Boonville High School
Returning State Qualifiers: 1 (1 medalist)
Predicted Qualifiers: 2-3
Summary: The Boonville Lady Pirates return 1 state medalist and could feasibly get up to two more through to the state meet as long as both wrestlers compete at their full potential and the brackets are situated to their advantage.

Brookfield High School
Returning State Qualifiers: 3 (2 medalists)
Predicted Qualifiers: 6-8
Summary: The Brookfield Lady Bulldogs return a solid 3 state qualifiers (2 of them medalists) and there’s no indication that those ladies can’t repeat their efforts from the season before which led to a 3rd consecutive 2nd place team finish at state. In addition, they could have 3-5 of their underclassmen step up and pull 1 or 2 upsets to give them half a starting lineup at the state tournament which would put them in line for another state trophy as well as possibly a District Tournament Plaque. They are the currently 9th ranked team via missouriwrestling.com.
